Learn Dutch (Nederlands) and have fun at the same time! We play games, we sing, we do arts and crafts, we watch movies, we do little projects and we celebrate Sinterklaas. We work with themes and different aspects and subjects within a theme in order to repeat a certain vocabulary. By working with different target words over a period of time, the student will master the vocabulary of a theme and gain a wealth of words. Participants will also learn about the foods, customs and culture of the Low Countries (the Netherlands and Belgium). They are encouraged to speak Dutch as much as possible in class. In offering an attractive program, children enjoy learning the Dutch language and culture. Join us and experience a Touch of Dutch!
Teacher: Suzi Shatat
Course materials: will be provided by the Dutch School Ottawa
Registration is ongoing throughout the year, it is recommended to register your child(ren) at the latest by Saturday 23 September to avoid running the risk that the program will be cancelled due to insufficient registrations. Registration can be done at school where Dutch School takes place (please bring proof of age).
Course fees: A $10 consumables/activity fee is charged by the Ottawa Catholic School Board.
Also, a voluntary contribution (starting at $70 per year for one student) to the Nederlandse School Ottawa is appreciated to offset the cost of not covered by the school board. Most of this money is used to pay for teaching assistants to keep the teacher to student ratio small. The improved ratio allows for the classes to be more personalized and enjoyable for the students. Your generous charitable donation is also used to put on special events such as Sinterklaas. The total amount of your donation is directed to the school and is completely tax deductible.
Please note: all Ottawa children can attend classes regardless of their Ontario home School Board. Every child who registers from the Quebec province has to pay $160.00 per school year based on the OCSB standards.
